BEAB APPROVED BY INTERTEK (250 PANEL)
Infrared Ceiling Heating for Homeowners

Nothing on the walls. Heat only the rooms you use. Slim white PowerBoard panels on the ceiling warm people and everything in the room directly, instead of heating the air first. Supplied and installed across the UK.

How We Calculate Our Savings Figures

Each bar is the model cap for replacing that system with PowerBoard, which is why PowerBoard itself is not a row: it is what every bar measures against. Not guarantees.

10-Year Warranty · 30-70% Savings · Zero Maintenance

Where the saving actually comes from

Electricity costs more per unit than gas, so the saving does not come from the unit price. It comes from four channels, and being honest about that is exactly why the figures hold up.

Fully switch off gas and the daily standing charge disappears, typically over £100 a year before you heat a single room.

No annual boiler service, no gas safety certificate, no parts to fail. Sealed panels with a 10-year warranty instead.

Radiant heat warms you and the room's surfaces directly, so most people feel comfortable with the air 2 to 3 degrees cooler than a convection system needs.

A boiler heats the whole house whether rooms are used or not. Every PowerBoard panel has its own thermostat, so empty rooms simply are not heated.

The model, system by system

The saving depends on what you are replacing. These are the caps our model uses; your own figure depends on insulation, tariff and how you use your rooms, which is what the free remote heat-loss survey works out.

No fuel deliveries, no boiler service, no wasted whole-house heating

Bottled and solid fuels carry the highest pence-per-kWh of heat

No overnight charging gamble; heat arrives when you actually want it

Radiant warmth at a lower air temperature, room by room

Standing charge dropped, no annual service, zone control ends whole-house heating

Mainly from zoning and the absence of maintenance, not unit cost

All figures are model-based estimates for replacing the stated system, not guarantees. Savings depend on your home, tariff and usage. The free remote heat-loss survey provides a like-for-like comparison for your property.

Three tiers, one honest ceiling each

The higher figures you see on this site always belong to the battery and solar packages, never to panels alone. That distinction is the model's backbone.

PowerBoard system

Panels and smart thermostats alone. The saving depends on the system you are replacing, per the ladder above: strongest against oil, LPG and storage heaters.

PowerBoard + battery

A home battery charged overnight on an off-peak tariff runs your heating on electricity bought at roughly a quarter of the peak rate.

PowerBoard + solar + battery

Add solar and much of your heating runs on electricity you generated yourself, with the battery moving it to when you need warmth.

The worked example, in full

A typical whole-house system, worked the same way on our 30-year comparison page. Nothing up the sleeve: four steps from panel count to annual cost.

24 panels across the house

5.4 kW total

5 heating hours a day, but panels cycle with the thermostat

× 40% duty = 2 hrs drawing

Across the year

5.4 kW × 2 hrs × 365 = 3,942 kWh

At a standard tariff

3,942 kWh × 27p = £1,064/yr

PowerBoard, whole house

£1,064/yr

Plus £0 maintenance, no service, no replacement cycle within the panels' 30+ year design life.

The same home on ageing gas

£1,320/yr + £150 service

~12,000 kWh × 6.24p × 1.8 boiler efficiency factor, plus the annual service, plus boiler replacements at years 12 and 24.

That worked example lands more than a quarter saved before zoning is even counted, comfortably inside the model's up to 40% cap for ageing gas. When an example beats our own cap we tighten the example, not the cap.

The basis behind every running-cost figure on this site: about 5 heating hours a day (an hour or two in the morning, the main block in the evening), with panels actually drawing power for only part of that time, because the thermostat cycles them off once the room is at temperature, typically a few minutes on to recover a dropped degree. Never 8 or 9 hours a day of drawing power, and always at the sitewide 27p/kWh, so you can compare it directly with what your current heating costs you for the same hours. We keep this rate fixed, set just above Ofgem's price cap when we chose it (26.32p, October 2026).

The questions sceptics ask, answered

Because the saving does not come from the unit price. It comes from four places: dropping the gas standing charge entirely if you fully switch, no annual boiler service or gas safety certificate, radiant warmth feeling comfortable at a 2 to 3 degree lower air temperature, and above all zone control. A boiler heats the whole house; infrared panels heat only the rooms you are using.

Probably not, and we will tell you so. A new A-rated combi in a small, well-insulated home heats cheaply, and there is little zoning waste to cut. In newer homes the strongest savings come from pairing PowerBoard with a battery on an off-peak tariff (up to 70%) or with solar and a battery (up to 90%).

No, and we never guarantee savings. They are model-based estimates for replacing the stated system, framed as "up to" because homes differ in insulation, tariff and how rooms are used. The free remote heat-loss survey gives you a like-for-like comparison for your own home before you spend anything.

A battery charged overnight on an off-peak tariff runs your heating on electricity bought at roughly a quarter of the peak rate, which is where the up to 70% tier comes from. Add solar and much of your daytime heating runs on electricity you generated yourself, taking the model to up to 90%.

Anything that would flatter the numbers. Smart Export Guarantee payments for exported solar are not counted in the savings. The £2,500 battery replacement at year 15 is included as a cost in our 20 and 30-year totals. And the comfort benefit of radiant heat at a lower air temperature is treated as comfort, not converted into an extra percentage. Conservative in, believable out.
