What is infrared heating?

Traditional heaters (gas radiators, storage heaters, fan heaters) heat the air, which then rises, stratifies near the ceiling, and escapes every time a door or window opens. Infrared bypasses the air entirely. The moment you switch on a PowerBoard panel, the warmth reaches you in around 10 minutes, not the 30-60 minutes a gas boiler system typically takes to bring a cold room to temperature.

Radiant vs Convective Heat

Convective systems (radiators, storage heaters) warm the air, which then circulates, picking up dust and triggering allergies. Infrared radiation warms surfaces and people directly, so the air stays still, stratification is eliminated, and warmth feels more natural.

How PowerBoard Panels Work

PowerBoard ceiling panels are flush-mounted during the plastering stage, becoming invisible once installed. A 12.5mm-thin carbon composite element converts electricity to long-wave infrared, radiating downward at 50-55°C, warm to touch, never dangerously hot.

Infrared panels paired with a smart thermostat cycle on and off to maintain temperature, typically running at 50-70% duty cycle in a well-insulated room. This means actual running costs are often 30-50% lower than the figures above.

How many panels do I need?

The rule of thumb for a well-insulated UK room: 1 × 250W panel per 4m² of floor area (integrated ceiling), or 1 × 750W surface panel per 13m² (retrofit/surface mount). Room size determines how many panels you need - project type determines which panel is right for you.
